You can then browse your installed icon themes from the menu and preview them in real time. To change the icons in your editor, open the command palette with CMD/CTRL + SHIFT + P and enter the command Preferences: File Icon Theme. You can install icon packs as you would other themes. New icons will appear in the VS Code Side Bar to help you visualize different files and folders. VS Code also lets you customize the icons in your editor. Check out these stylish light themes. After loading a little bit, you will see your new dark design. When you do this, it will took a while to Visual Studio to change definitely the theme. Go to Tools > Options: Then select the Environment view and the General tab: Accept the new theme clicking on OK. I find that a greyish background works for me, such as IntelliJs Darcula theme. To get started, open Visual Studio and access the options in the start page. Pure white letters on pure black (as in Windows dark theme) is almost as bad as pure black on pure white background.
